Girl, put your records on

Music has a huge connection to our memories. And has the ability to remind us of any aspect of our life within a matter of seconds.  Today I'm going to share with you a few songs, albums and anthems that instantly take me back to a different place or time, or simply remind me of something special.

My mum absolutely loves the band, Fun. I borrowed their album, Some Nights, from her to put on my Iphone for the 3 hour drive to the Harry Potter studio tour in February. It was an extremely long journey and was made worse by the fact we'd had a foot of snow the night before, and people were being told not to travel. But we went anyway. Every time any of the songs from the album, especially the title track, plays on my phone or computer. I instantly think of that journey, the mighty amount of snow and my mums fretting.
Anyone who knows me well, will know that I love Taylor Swift. She's one of my biggest girl crushes and her music is just perfect. Her song lyrics are just magical! Her most recent album, Red, came out at the end of last year. As soon as I'd downloaded it from itunes it was on repeat, and now the album reminds me of the Christmas season. Any time a few bars from any song from the album play, I'm instantly taken back to my favourite time of year!

Everyone was involved in one club, group or extra curricular activity at school. One out of my many two, was the school choir! There are two songs that instantly take me back to the days in the music room. The first is Shackles, by Mary Mary. A kick ass gospel song, that our Church of England school loved! The other song will probably come as more of a shock, but is The Climb, by none other than Miley Cyrus. I can so clearly remember standing around that piano, as group of us sung it acapella to the teacher who ran the choir. She was instantly taken, and it was another song added to our repertoire. I probably still know every word to both songs today.
Group, is the name of my youth group. And before the evening officially starts, everyone is just hanging out, mulling about and chatting. At the same time we have music blasting from a set of Ipod docks. Radioactive by Imagine Dragons, is one of the songs that seems to be on continued repeat. Every time I hear it, I get taken back to Group and that room full of teenagers making a hell of a lot of noise!
A few of you may know that in June I did two separate weeks of work experience. One week at my local newspaper and another at one of the local radio stations. Whilst at Cross Rhythms (the radio station) I did many different things. One of which was I was given the opportunity to spend the day writing music reviews. I was given two CD's (at different points through out the day) and they were what I reviewed. The second of the two CD's I got to keep and take home, as they had multiple copies! That album is called, We Won't Be Shaken by, Building 429. The genre is apparently rock, although it's not like any rock I've ever listened to before. I love the album and the style of music, and it always reminds me of my wonderful week at Cross Rhythms.

Some of you may have read my post about Soul Survivor (here), the festival I went to at the beginning of the summer with a group of my friends! If you read all of that post you'll know that we were that group with the guitar and ukuleles. Continually bursting out in song at random intervals, and getting some rather odd looks as a result. One of the main songs that was played was Hey Ho, by the Lumineers. As pretty much everyone who could play one of our three stringed instruments could play it!

All together now... I belong with you, you belong with me...
Do you have any songs or albums that remind you of something special, or are connected to a memory? If so let me know, I'd love to hear about it!
Love and cuddles
God bless
